Implantable device that alerts to labor by monitoring cervical changes.

  1. General Details

    This implantable cervical monitoring device provides real-time data on cervical dilation and labor onset in pregnant women. Designed to improve obstetric care, it helps detect early or silent labor, prevent unnecessary hospital visits, and reduce the risk of preterm birth and miscarriage.

    The device consists of a biocompatible housing implanted on the cervix using sutures. It contains a tension sensor, spindle, transmitter, and power source. As the cervix dilates, tension on the sutures is detected by the sensor, which sends a signal via the transmitter to an external device such as a smartphone or computer.

    Integrated MEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems) sensors placed at two points on the cervix collect and transmit additional data, including vaginal pH levels to detect amniotic fluid leakage. This information is processed and sent to a remote monitoring system, enabling continuous, non-invasive tracking throughout the first stage of labor.

    The system allows patients and healthcare providers to be alerted promptly, supporting earlier interventions and improved outcomes in high-risk or complicated pregnancies.
